New Ethernet switches ‘ideal’ for the field

Features said to make solutions suitable for most industrial environments

New Ethernet switches ‘ideal’ for the field

ifm electronic has launched a new range of Ethernet switches that are said to offer high vibration and shock resistance, complemented by extended temperature and voltage operating ranges.

“These features mean that the switches are suitable for use in almost any industrial environment and, as they carry E20 approval, they are also ideal for mobile applications, including those on vehicles that will be used outdoors,” states the company.

“The AL3xxx six-port unmanaged switches are compatible with all common automation protocols, including Modbus TCP and PROFINET CC-A, and are well suited for IIoT applications. They perfectly complement modules in the ifm electronic IO-Link master family, featuring the same design, port configuration and standardised M12 connectors which, particularly in field applications, are much more reliable than RJ-45 types.”

StandardLine and PerformanceLine

StandardLine switches in the new range have A-coded connectors, while PerformanceLine versions have L-coded connectors with enhanced current capability. The PerformanceLine versions can be daisy-chained to other modules in the product family, which simplifies the provision of power.

All types are available in industrial versions with coolant-resistant housings, and in versions with housings fabricated from materials that meet the specific requirements of the food and related industries.

To complement Ethernet switches in the new AL3xxx range, ifm offers prefabricated EVC cables that incorporate ecolink technology “to ensure robust connections and reliable data transfer”. A-coded and L-coded sockets are also available, along with L-coded power connection cables.
