New fully-rugged, ultra-light hybrid notebook/tablet PC
GETAC Inc, a subsidiary company of MiTAC Technology Corporation and a leading specialist manufacturer of rugged mobile computers, is launching its new fully-rugged, ultra-light hybrid Notebook/Tablet PC, the V100. Designed from the bottom up to meet the high rugged standards of the manufacturing, military, government, utility, public safety, field service, and health care industries, the new V100 boasts specialist rugged features, including a magnesium alloy casing, to ensure it can withstand some of the most extreme conditions in almost any environment.
The 2.2kg ultra-light V100 features a rotatable, polarised 10.4inch WXGA TFT LCD touchscreen display (12.1inch optional), enabling it to transform from a notebook into a tablet PC. The V100's innovative display also houses a reversible integrated waterproof 1.3 megapixel camera. For use in extreme conditions, the V100's display can be customised to include sunlight-readable technology to ensure clear visibility in high-sunlight conditions, such as in the Gulf.
GETAC's V100 complies with both MIL-STD 810F and IP54 standards. It is capable of withstanding heavy rain and spillages and is immune to damage from airborne dust and debris. The removable hard drive, the most vulnerable hardware in any system, is shielded by a protection mechanism to prevent damage during operation. It includes: anti-vibration rubber, making it suitable for use during transport across rough terrain; and an anti-shock housing for circumstances when drops may occur. The HDD is also prepared for extreme temperatures - with a specifically designed optional HDD heater combined with low-temperature battery, the V100 will continue to work in temperatures down to -20degC. The V100 is said to be one of the first computers with an ultra-mobile footprint to provide such advanced rugged features.
Power management
Benefiting from an Intel Core Duo ULV 1.2GHz processor, the V100 is enabled with the latest power-saving technology to extend the all-important battery life; this is on top of a six-hour battery life as standard, and there is an option to increase this even more with an upgrade to a nine-cell battery.
GETAC recognises that communication on the move is of the utmost importance and so has designed the V100 to include a variety of wireless capabilities to ensure no matter what requirements the user may have, they are fulfilled; the V100 supports Bluetooth TPM 1.2 and WLAN technology as standard, and 3G and GPRS are available as upgrades.
