New high-end industrial PC range from Siemens Industry

Siemens Industry is launching a new generation of its high-end industrial PC family Simatic IPC to address complex automation applications for hostile industrial environments. The new devices form the D generation and are described as the first box, rack and panel industrial PCs of their kind on the market.

New high-end industrial PC range from Siemens Industry

The D generation range supports the power multi-core processor types Intel Xeon and Intel Core i3 to Core i7 of the fourth generation and its devices boast 60 to 180 per cent higher CPU power than the predecessor models of the C generation.

HD on-board graphics integrated into the CPU now achieve three times higher graphics performance, and the devices' high long-time availability and industrial functionality are designed for maintenance-free, 24-hour continuous operation. They also meet high-temperature, vibration, shock, and EMC requirements.

Siemens' compact Box-PC Simatic IPC627D, along with the expandable PC Simatic IPC827D and the versatile panel PC Simatic IPC677D, are available with a 22-inch full HD widescreen display. They are suitable for fast instrumentation, control tasks and operator control, as well as monitoring directly at the machine.

The comprehensively expandable Simatic IPC847D and the compact Simatic IPC647D are from the robust rack PC device series for 19-inch cabinet installation. They are used for fast processing of large data volumes, for example, in instrumentation, on test bays, or in industrial image processing.

With its fast system response, supported by up-to-date PCIe 3.0 and USB 3.0 PC interface technology, the new range supports challenging and complex automation applications, for example, where instrumentation and control tasks and visualisation systems have to be implemented concurrently in one device.

For high availability and data security, secure mass storage and RAID systems are available enabling automatic recovery without changing hard disks. DisplayPort and DVI graphics interfaces are integrated as standard, making dual and multi-monitoring applications simple to implement.

An optional PCIe ×16 video card permits connection of up to five monitors and the integrated Active Management Technology Intel AMT 9.0 permits convenient remote management for password-protected remote diagnostics and maintenance. All devices also feature fast system diagnostics with status LEDs and pre-installed diagnostics software. Low-loss power supply units with 80 per cent efficiency and a wake-on-LAN function make the IPCs particularly energy efficient, especially when used for 24 hours continuously.

The D generation Simatic IPCs are optionally available with a pre-installed and activated Windows 7 Ultimate (32/64 bit) operating system. Windows Server 2008 R2 can also be supplied for the IPC647D and 847D devices. For more information, visit www.siemens.com/simatic-ipc.
