Henkel's Loctite 8009 metal-free anti-seize compound is said to be universal in its application for general assembly and maintenance tasks, as well as on more specialised components; it is compatible with stainless steel and titanium and also provides excellent chemical and temperature resistance for reliable, long-term lubrication of slow moving components. And now it is also available in a handy 454g screw-capped can with an integral brush.
Henkel entered the anti-seize market when it bought the company that developed the first copper-based product. Indeed, it still manufactures anti-seize that uses copper or aluminium to provide lubrication at high temperatures. However, in line with its continuous development policy, Henkel now also offers several complementary products. Loctite 8009 is one such lubricant, and it offers distinct benefits for the maintenance engineer.
Traditionally anti-seize compounds use metal fillers to provide lubrication when operating temperatures are high. These fillers can, however, have a detrimental effect on other metals such as stainless steel and titanium, increasing the potential for stress cracking.
Loctite 8009 (officially designated Loctite LB 8009) differs in that it replaces metal fillers with mineral-based fillers. As a result, it can be used on all metals and is also able to withstand temperatures from -30degC up to 1315degC, providing maintenance engineers with a high-performance anti-seize for all applications. It lubricates the surface, protects corrosion and also resists high pressure as well as temperatures.
This newly packaged all-purpose anti-seize is part of a family of products that also includes those that are tailored precisely to specific industry requirements. For example, there is a Loctite anti-seize product with PMUC approval for use in nuclear power plants and a marine-grade version with American Bureau of Shipping certification that is resistant to salt water.
Loctite anti-seizes improve both assembly and disassembly of close-fitting metal surfaces, such as interference fits and threaded joints, by reducing friction and wear on critical operating equipment. They are formulated for use in harsh industrial conditions, including high temperatures, heavy loads, chemical environments, pounding and vibration.
Thanks to their composition, they are suited to static and boundary friction conditions generated by a combination of low speed and high pressure, effectively preventing direct contact between metallic parts.
