Phoenix Contact is launching the PSR Motionstop safety module for monitoring safe shutdowns (standstill) and the movement of drive components. Standard sensors such as incremental encoders, safety-certified rotary encoders, and proximity switches can all be connected to the 35mm wide device for implementing safety functions in accordance with EN 61800-5-2, Adjustable speed electrical power drive systems. Safety requirements. Functional. Semiconductor and relay outputs enable dangerous movements to be stopped quickly and safely if necessary. Up to four different operating modes can be monitored for one machine in connection with external drive components, and the integrated STO (safe torque off), SLS (safely limited speed), SMS (safe speed management), and SDI (safely monitored direction) safety features.
According to Phoenix Contact, the new PSR Motionstop safety module is easily configured with the removable PSR-OP service and display unit. This is not required for the basic device to function, meaning that a remotely operated PSR OP unit has maximum protection from manipulation and offers cost advantages over the use of several basic devices. The safety module is suitable for applications up to SIL 3 in accordance with EN 61508 and EN IEC 62061, and PLe in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1.
