New Novotechnik RFE-3200 has all the angles
Sensor said to suit mobile machinery and off-highway position measurement
New from the German sensor specialist Novotechnik and available in the UK from Variohm EuroSensor, RFE-3200 series angle sensors are built for precision rotary position sensing tasks in the harsh environments encountered in agricultural machinery, off highway vehicles and mobile machinery.
The two-part ‘Touchless technology’ design comprises a fully encapsulated Hall sensor element in an IP69K sealed housing and a separate magnetic position marker. The bearing- and shaft-less RFE-3200 is said to offer "an essentially unlimited mechanical life", with a 12- or 14-bit angular resolution over its 0 to 360 measurement range in 10 steps, and is available in a flexible choice of analogue, ratiometric or fieldbus interfaces.
Built for harsh environments
The new RFE 3200 is built for harsh environment installation where ease of use and measurement reliability is crucial. With ISO 60068 rated shock and vibration ratings of 50 g and 20 g respectively, the sensor meets the most stringent standards for EMC noise emissions and immunity. A full-scale linearity of 0.5% and repeatability of less than +/- 0.1 ensure measurement precision in single channel and dual redundant versions.
A 12 to 24 V DC input voltage allows use across all types of mobile machinery with very low current consumption, while output options of 4 … 20 mA, 0.25 … 4.75 V, 0.5 … 4.5 V, CANopen and CAN SAE J1939 ensure wide flexibility for measurement control systems.
Environmental factor
The impressive environmental specification for the RFE 3200 continues with a temperature range rating of -40 ... +105° C for the current and fieldbus versions. For even higher ambient temperature resilience, the voltage and ratiometric versions have an increased temperature capability to + 125° C.
For DIN EN ISO 13849, PLd / Cat. 3 safety-related applications, dual-channel designs are also available. The high-grade temperature resistant housing measures approximately 41.5 x 59 x 18 mm including an integral Amp MQS 6-pin connector and two stainless steel M4 threaded insert fixings. A wide choice of position marker magnets includes shaft-mounted, disc type, screw threaded and flat designs.
