New PNOZmulti configurable controller for larger projects
Pilz Automation Technology is launching a new version of its popular PNOZmulti 2 software-configurable modular safety controller, the PNOZmulti B1, that is suitable for larger projects. With higher performance, scope for creating larger projects, and extensive expansion options and modules for connecting to all commonly encountered fieldbus systems, the PNOZmulti B1 will be welcomed by machine builders and system integrators wanting a cost-effective and user-friendly means of managing machine safety on a larger scale.
Whereas previous PNOZmulti controllers have had some built-in I/O, the PNOZ m B1 base unit contains no inputs or outputs; instead, expansion modules are used to adapt the system to match the application's requirements. Furthermore, the number of expansion modules that can be connected on the right-hand side has been increased to eight. However, two integrated Ethernet interfaces save costs, because there is no need to purchase an Ethernet expansion module. Customers can also choose communications modules so the PNOZmulti can be connected to their preferred fieldbus, which helps to reduce downtime and increase availability. Another new feature on the PNOZ m B1 is an illuminated display that provides convenient on-site diagnostics.
Simpler project management
The maximum program size of the PNOZ m B1 has been quadrupled: up to 1024 connections can now be made between the elements. Projects can be stored on a USB memory stick, which enables several projects to be stored concurrently and provides for machine-specific management. One of the programs can be selected to run via the Project Manager. It is also now possible to set the date and time for the PNOZ m B1 base module in the PNOZmulti Configurator. The PNOZ m B1 is compatible with Version 10 of the PNOZmulti Configurator software tool.
The PNOZmulti 2 configurable control system can now also be connected to the CC-Link fieldbus system, in addition to Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP and many others. If the PNOZmulti 2 is to be connected to another fieldbus system, this can be achieved without having to change the program; this is because one fieldbus module can simply be swapped for another suitable module.
The PNOZmulti 2 is an open, configurable control system for safety functions, which can be used flexibly and industry-wide for both safety and automation, independently of the higher-level plant control system. Use of the available expansion modules enables finer granularity in the control, so the control structure can be adapted precisely to the application. Moreover, customers only purchase what they will actually use, which saves time and costs.
Future-proof machine safety
Pilz says the PNOZmulti 2 configurable control system is particularly suitable for implementing multiple safety functions on plant or machinery. The system is modular and expandable, so it can grow with the machine as it expands or as its requirements change. And, of course, the PNOZmulti 2 can be connected to many different communication networks.
A safety architecture can be created independently of the higher-level operational control system, because its application is independent of the machine or plant type, country or industry. Users can therefore standardise their safety, which simplifies project management, as well as ongoing support and maintenance.
