Tyco Electronics is launching the Mag45 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Plus PSE-ICM connector as a high-power interface to meet both IEEE 802.3AF/AT and PoETec specifications. The interface design combines an RJ-45 connector with integrated gigabit magnetics and an embedded PoE Plus controller board, which enables data and power to be transmitted over the same Ethernet cable via existing Cat5 infrastructures. This latest development utilises PoE technology to offer a high current capacity of up to 600mA per port.
According to Tyco, the technological capabilities of the Mag45 connector interface will benefit OEMs because it simplifies the high-density distributed power system delivery without the need to retool the existing network, plus it improves network functionality. Additionally, cost savings are achieved through the reduced development cost of the PoE Plus board and overall ICM footprint, leading to accelerated time to market.
Additional features include a surge-protected system with single voltage feeding, a low channel resistance and a compact, EMI-optimised and thermal design. The complete product line offers fully integrated, PoE Plus-enabled and standard 10/100/1000 capability in compatible footprints.
Target applications include switches/routers/hubs, wireless access points, network cameras, video/IP telephone, point-of-sale terminals and thin client computers. The connector serves the network, server, industrial and consumer application markets.
The UL-certified (2-840251) connector complies with FCC Class B requirements and meets and IEC 60950-1 requirements.
