More durability and resistance to contamination amongst benefits highlighted
A common method for creating a linear measuring solution is to use a rotary encoder, in conjunction with a measuring wheel, says British Encoder Products Company (BEPC).
“For many applications, a rotary encoder with a measuring wheel has several advantages over a linear scale encoder. When using an encoder with a measuring wheel, rather than a linear scale encoder, the application is not limited by the length of the scale, allowing indefinite measurement in one direction, without the need to return in the other direction. A rotary encoder may also be more durable and resistant to contamination, as compared to a linear scale and read head.”
Linear measurement solutions expanded
The company has introduced an addition to its line of linear measurement solutions, providing a spring-loaded mounting bracket, combined with a choice of measuring wheel. The encoder is then selected that best fits the specific linear motion control application.
This spring-loaded mounting bracket fits 2.5” (63.5mm) shafted encoders with servo mounts and 58 mm shafted encoders with clamping flanges. The bracket works with the following BEPC encoders:
