Lee Spring has published a new REDUX Wave Spring mini-catalogue that is available as a free download from the Lee Spring website (905kB PDF), or as a hard copy on request or from the company's stand at MACH 2012 (stand 4315 in Hall 4 at the NEC, from 16-20 April).
REDUX wave springs have not previously been available from Lee Spring in metric sizes, so this new development will be of interest to a great many design engineers. Other new additions for 2012 - which include metric torsion springs - bring Lee Spring's total stock range to around 19,000 spring product types.
Chris Petts, Lee Spring Ltd's Managing Director, comments: "The world increasingly speaks one measurement language and that is metric. Although our current catalogue and website displays our designs in both inch and metric dimensions, customers increasingly request more 'hard' metric designs and submit prints only in metric."
The two new metric lines feature over 350 metric REDUX Wave Spring designs in 17-7 stainless steel and over 750 metric torsion springs in a choice of either zinc-plated music wire or passivated 302/304 stainless steel. This is in addition to an expanded portfolio of metric compression and extension springs with designs that meet the physical parameters of the European standards for compression springs (DIN 2098) and extension springs (DIN 2097).
Aside from the Metric vs Inch debate, size is of concern to customers for other reasons. As assemblies continue to get smaller, so does the requirement for products that work within reduced spatial parameters. Wave springs occupy only 30-50 per cent of the compressed height space of comparable round wire springs, yet deflection is the same for a given load. Belleville washers are designed to support high loads with relatively small deflections and solid heights.
