NSK is launching a high-performance, shielded, double-row angular-contact ball bearing for industrial water pumps. Demand for these pumps is increasing worldwide for water supply and sewage, irrigation, and various water service systems. The new bearing features improved axial load carrying capacity and a longer service life - which increases reliability and decreases operating costs for water pumps. NSK is targeting annual sales of 700million yen for this product in the global market for industrial pumps by 2014.
Industrial water pumps are expected to be highly efficient and reliable and to reduce environmental impact. For this reason, the bearings used in these pumps are expected to provide both compactness and greater load carrying capacity.
In response to these needs, NSK has developed and commercialised a specialist high-performance, shielded, double-row angular-contact ball bearing. The bearing has dimensions (bore, outside diameter and width) that are compliant with ISO standards.
Due to the optimised shielded design, bearing life is improved by a factor of 1.3 to 2.6 compared to conventional products. This enables a smaller bearing to provide the same bearing life or maintenance intervals to be extended.
The bearing's axial load-carrying capacity is improved by a factor of 1.1 to 2.8 through an optimised design.
Thanks to high-temperature dimensional stabilisation, the bearing can be used up to a maximum of 150degC.
Operating costs are reduced because water pumps can be downsized. Furthermore, the pump design can be simplified and productivity improved due to the use of a grease-filled bearing. Maintenance intervals are increased thanks to the longer bearing life.
Pump reliability is also improved, since the bearing is able to carry a heavier axial load and it can withstand higher operating temperatures.
