Eaton is expanding its portfolio of high-end HMIs with the XP500 series of powerful industrial touch-panel PCs. The new devices bring the latest operating systems and practices from consumer technology into the field of automation to meet the increasing need of machine and system builders for high-precision and cost-efficient HMIs with capacitive multi-touch technology. The HMI panels run on Windows 7, are available with widescreen displays of 10.1", 15.6" or 21.5" and are mounted in switch cabinets or operator consoles, making them suitable for standard machine-building applications in virtually all industrial sectors.
The XP500 panel PC simplifies operation for the user, and its touch sensor technology ensures that control commands are detected accurately. The PCT (projected capacitive touch) technology provides intuitive operation and the multi-touch screen means users can operate several functions simultaneously. Similarly to smartphones and tablets, the operator can now also use touch to zoom and scroll. This precise sensor system prevents accidental operating errors or machine starts which can only be activated by touching several operating fields at the same time. The XP500's AMD 1.65GHz Dual Core CPUs with integrated Radeon graphics card ensure a high processing capacity as well as outstanding graphics. The devices run on Windows 7 or Windows Embedded 7 operating systems, making them suitable for a wide range of different software.
With a slim, fan-free design, the XP500 has a large-area display which provides a modern appearance and reduces space requirements. The non-reflective safety glass is easy to maintain with a split-free and edge-free front that allows thorough cleaning. The aluminium housing is robust, with the front offering protection to IP65/Nema 4X and devices provided with UL Class I, Division 2 certification. This also makes the panel PCs suitable for harsh industrial environments as well as for hazardous applications in the process industry.
Eaton's XP5000 comes with two Ethernet and USB interfaces as well as an RS232 and RS485 interface. As well as the internal mass memories, a CFast removable memory card can also be used for the operation or for the data.
