On 19 July the European Commission published Edition 2.1 of its official guidance on the application of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This Update covers amendments made to the Machinery Directive by Directive 2009/127/EC on Pesticide Equipment and Regulation (EU) No 167/2013 on the approval and market surveillance of agricultural and forestry vehicles (tractors). In addition, there is new guidance on partly completed machinery and assemblies, and clarifications and corrections have been made in relation to safety components, new and used machinery, and marking of machinery. There is also additional guidance covering a number of specific topics including: safety fences as safety components; emergency stop devices; and guards for drilling machines.

If you are a machine builder or system integrator needing to CE mark machinery this is a 'must have' document, and it will also be very useful for anyone specifying new machinery or who is interested in comparing the safety of existing machines with the state of the art. Follow the link to find out more about Edition 2.1 of the official guidance on the application of the Machinery Directive.
