The HSE is reminding machine builders that there is a very helpful guide to preparing noise emission declarations. Manufacturers have a legal obligation to provide information on the noise generated by their machinery, both in the instruction manual and in sales literature.
In English, the full title of the multilingual publication is Guide for manufacturers on how to report noise emission in instruction manuals and other literature in accordance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and Outdoor Noise Directive 2000/14/EC. Other languages are German, French, Spanish, Dutch and Swedish. It was prepared after a European survey (referred to as NOMAD) found that 80 per cent of the instructions assessed did not meet the noise requirements of the Machinery Directive. The NOMAD guide helps machine builders meet their legal duties in relation to declaring noise emissions.
