Non-contact rotary sensor gains higher resolution

Penny + Giles is upgrading its range of rugged, non-contact Hall effect rotary position sensors for use in harsh environments. The new SRH series features a 12-bit processor and offers 0.088deg measurement resolution for high-precision monitoring under conditions of extreme temperature, humidity, vibration, shock and immersion. The upgrade allows OEMs to produce more accurate measurement equipment for the most demanding automotive, motor sport and industrial position sensing applications.

The SRH sensor's non-contact Hall effect technology ensures reliable and accurate rotary measurement in high dither vibration conditions with no deterioration of the sensing element. The sensors are rated to withstand 2500g shock in all axes, and to operate in a wide temperature range from -40 to 120degC.

Two models are available. The 28mm diameter SRH280 is sealed to IP50 or IP68 and is designed for use in automotive and motor sport applications. The larger 88mm diameter SRH880 is sealed to IP68M using a double sealing system and is submersible to 2m. It is available with an aluminium or stainless steel housing and is designed for use in heavy industrial applications including construction, agricultural, military, steelworks and power generation.

All the SRH sensors feature a measurement range from 90 to 360degrees and a temperature error of less than 50ppm/degC. They are available with analogue voltage or pulse-width modulated digital signal output.

All products are manufactured at Penny + Giles' ISO 9001-certified facility and are CE marked.
