NORDBLOC.1 helical gear motors built in four hours
Nord Gear has added a further production line at its Abingdon, UK, assembly and service facility, expanding its same-day assembly service to include NORDBLOC.1 series helical inline gear motors for torque outputs to 640Nm and motor ratings to 9.2kW.
Representing an investment of 100,000, the new assembly line includes the inventory investment for all the component parts required for fast delivery throughout the NORDBLOC.1 gear motor range. A self-contained production unit, complete with a custom-built hydraulic press, motor test station, bench parts and assembly tools, enables skilled technicians to hand-build each gearmotor to the highest standards within hours from receipt of order. The process includes full quality control and is completely integrated into Nord's MRP system and online ordering service.
The UK facility in Abingdon already has six similar production units and a paint shop that provides the fast assembly service for a large proportion of Nord's industrial gear motor range, which includes helical parallel shaft, helical bevel and helical worm designs up to 200,000Nm, with motors, inverters and servo controls also available.
Nord says the new production line builds upon its philosophy of world-wide assembly and service facilities centred in major manufacturing areas - each offering localised technical support and a rapid delivery service. Currently, more than 60 such facilities operate across the globe.
NORDBLOC.1 gear motors
Nord introduced the NORDBLOC.1 gear motor range in 2007; it is based upon the UNICASE design that Nord has developed and improved over almost three decades. The UNICASE one-piece housing provides higher strength and much less deflection than fabricated gearbox designs, and with minimal sealing to virtually eliminate the potential for oil leakage under high-load conditions.
The high-efficiency NORDBLOC.1 range features larger and stronger bearings for a higher overhung and thrust load capacity as well as a much improved gearbox lifetime. Its lightweight diecast aluminium UNICASE housing has a smooth finish that provides natural corrosion protection without any paint finish, although this can be provided if required. The modular range covers foot- and face-mount versions with industry-standard dimensions and B5/B14 mountings. Design optimisation has also extended to compact and space-saving IEC flange adapters for motor sizes 63 to 90, which reduce the overall length but are interchangeable with older models
Models available for fast turnaround include five gear unit designs, typically each with more than 30 ratio choices from 1.88:1 to over 400:1 in two- and three-stage reductions with efficiencies up to 96 per cent. Single- and three-phase motors in two-, four- and six-pole winding configurations and EFF1 and EFF2 ratings are stocked, plus ATEX versions are available for use in hazardous environments.
The NORDBLOC range also extends to four larger cast iron models for up to 3200Nm output torque, which are available on fast turnaround from Nord's German manufacturing headquarters.
