Norelem introduces ball transfer units with plastic housing

If you are looking for a quality ball transfer unit for applications unable to implement stainless-steel units, Norelem’s latest product innovation will overcome the challenge with their new plastic housing ball transfer unit.

The units are designed to be used as components in conveyor systems, feeders, on processing machines and in packaging equipment, to allow unit loads to be easily moved, rotated, and steered. The new units’ outer casing is made of a certified blue plastic which is suitable for use in the food sector.

Ball transfer units, in contrast to conventional conveyor belts or other types of mechanical or electronic production lines, rely solely on the momentum of the delivered object or any external forces transmitted onto those objects while moving them from one spot to another. Therefore, ball transfer units may result in energy cost reductions as well as decreased maintenance and repair costs in the majority of applications.

Marcus Schneck, CEO of Norelem, said: “Through the implementation of the plastic ball transfer units, we can allow for easier transfer of loads across a multitude of applications and save on energy in sectors where the units stainless-steel alternatives could not be implemented.”

The ball transfer units are equipped with a gap-free and closed cover, which prevents a dirty edge from forming. Additionally, the dirt holes on the lower side of the housing means that the units can be easily cleaned anyway.

Both the load balls and support balls are made from stainless-steel, however in the case of load balls a plastic version is also available. The steel ball units are suitable for use in temperatures ranging from -30°C to +50°C, with the plastic balls having an upper limit of 30°C. This means that they are suitable for use in a range of environments. Equally, the units are suitable of transferring loads of up to 500n (roughly 50 kg) at speeds as high as 1.5 metres per second, which means they are perfect for transporting heavy loads quickly and efficiently.
