With effect from 1 October 2009, NSK has combined its Bearings and Linear Products departments into a single European Industrial Business Unit. The new unit will be headed by Dr Jrgen Ackermann, with the European sales and marketing functions being co-ordinated by Dipl-Ing Volker Polonyi.
The bearings and linear products departments were previously organised as separate business units that acted largely independently in the market. This divide is being erased for good reason. Dr Jrgen Ackermann, Managing Director of the new European Industrial Business Unit, says: "More and more customers are using both bearings and linear components from NSK. In line with the vision of 'One face to the customer,' they now have one point of contact. That simplifies our co-operation.'
The two business units are also being consolidated to enhance customer and industry orientation. Dipl-Ing Volker Polonyi, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing for the European Industrial Business Unit says: "We have very extensive industry know-how in our core markets. Some of these industries, such as machine tool manufacturing, the steel industry, installation and operation technology, and food technology, use both our bearings and our linear components. So we are now better able to bundle our industry expertise."
Dr Ackermann adds: "Our engineering services and our competencies in core technologies such as materials technology, tribology and mechatronics are increasingly in demand, while ever-closer co-operation with our customers' development divisions becomes the norm." The expansion of the European Technology Centre in Ratingen, Germany, will also play a role in this context. NSK's European research and development activities will be concentrated there.
