Lenze has extended its OKS surface protection system from standard geared motors to servo motors and servo geared motors. There are many industrial applications where a standard paint finish is not sufficiently resistant for the working environment. Examples are increasing humidity outdoors or in cold stores, the presence of salt in marine environments, and chemicals found in some industrial processes. Lenze already offered three increasing levels of protection for standard geared motors to suits these conditions. And now the same protection can be applied to servo motors and geared motors, making these units an attractive and cost-effective alternative to stainless steel products.
The highest of the three protection levels, the OKS-L meets category C3 of EN ISO 12944-2 suiting use with the presence of water, chemicals and even high ambient temperatures. A primer coat plus two top coats are applied, with a final colour that can be customer specified. Fasteners are zinc coated and sealing rings are applied to them. Output shafts and nameplates in stainless steel are also available as an option. Chemical resistance is good for ammonia, oils, diesel fuel, cleaning solvents and acetic acid.
Now that Lenze servo motors and geared motors are offered with enhanced environmental protection, customers can more easily specify the products that they need for a particular application. Compared to products with stainless steel construction, lead times are short (only 10 extra days for the finish) and surcharges are low. The choice of gearboxes includes planetary, helical, bevel, helical bevel and helical worm.
