PID controllers selected for annealing and tempering

The key to achieving these two important goals depends partly on the precise control of temperature in the heat treatment, annealing and tempering furnaces. Eurotherm controllers are used in these applications, as well as the injection moulding process for the razor body and in special-purpose printing machines.

Supermax asked Eurotherm to provide the temperature control for the company's production machines. Kalpesh Desai, Eurotherm's sales manager in India, comments: "By using Eurotherm controllers, accurate PID control performance has been maintained. This has provided Supermax with the high standard of temperature accuracy and uniformity demanded by the company. As a result, their production facilities worldwide maintain a consistent high quality, which, in turn, reduces scrap and increases productivity."

10 million blades per day

Supermax is headquartered in Mumbai with manufacturing facilities in a number of locations including Hyderabad. The company produces 10million conventional double-sided razors and 1.2million disposable razors per day. These are produced for both local and export markets including the UK, USA and Europe. The razors are marketed under different brand names worldwide, but sales are said to be second only to Gillette worldwide.

In total Eurotherm has supplied 250 of its 3216 PID temperature controllers and 460 single-phase thyristor units to Supermax, together with other products. Supermax is establishing production facilities in Mexico, Bangladesh and the Czech Republic and will be supplying all the manufacturing machines for these sites from its Mumbai sites utilising Eurotherm controls.
