Pilz Sigma PNOZ s4 safety relay is approved to EN 81-1

One of the most popular Pilz Sigma safety relays, the PNOZ s4, now has an additional approval from TUV for use in lift applications in accordance with EN 81-1 Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts - part 1: Electric Lifts. This means the relay can now be used in an even wider range of applications, without the need to stock a different type of safety relay.

Sub-clauses 14.1.2 and 14.2.1 of EN 81-1 detail the requirements for electric safety devices, and control under normal conditions, levelling and re-levelling with doors open, inspection, emergency and docking. The standard also details tests for devices like the PNOZ s4 (which contains a printed circuit board) to prove that they will provide reliable service under the typical conditions found in lift applications (such as vibration, bumping, partial shocking, continuous shocking and diverse temperature).

The PNOZ s4 is certified to meet PL e of EN ISO 13849-1:2008, has a SIL Claim Limit of SIL CL 3, and a PFHD of 2.31 x 10-9. It can be connected in a category 4 architecture to provide dual-channel, 99 per cent Diagnostic Coverage to input and output subsystems.

It is available in 24V DC and 48-240V AC/DC versions, with either plug-in screw or plug-in spring-loaded terminals for rapid installation. Six built-in LEDs make fault finding easy, and all operating modes (such as the type of reset, forced start-up test for guards, input channel polarities, etc) are simply set using a dial on the front, which can be locked.

As required, the three normally-open safety relay outputs are force-guided and meet the requirements of EN 60947-5-1 and EN 60204-1. The safety relay is suitable for use in emergency stop, safety gate and light curtain applications. An additional normally-closed and solid-state diagnostic output are built in.

The PNOZ s4 can be easily expanded using PNOZ Sigma s7 / s7.1 / s7.2 / s8 / s9 / s10 and s11 expansion modules, without wiring thanks to a simple plug-in connector that bridges the top of the relay and expander modules. This reduces cabling by up to 20 per cent.

The PNOZ s4 is part of the Pilz Sigma safety relay range, which covers all safety functions required of safety relays. Follow the link for more information about Pilz PNOZ Sigma safety relays.
