Pilz Training Manager wins C&G Medal for Excellence

Martin Palmer, the Training Manager at Pilz Automation Technology, has been awarded a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence for his outstanding performance as a lecturer/trainer in the processing and manufacturing sector. Martin (pictured right) received his medal at the East Midlands Awards Ceremony that took place at Makeney Hall Hotel, Makeney in Derbyshire. He will also be attending the Lion Awards ceremony at the Lancaster Hotel, London, in April, at which he stands a chance of winning a national award.

Speaking about his medal, Martin says: "I feel honoured and privileged to have been considered for the award, but I am accepting it on behalf of the whole team at Pilz. I would not have been able to do it without their support and backup."

As well as presenting the C&G training courses in machinery safety, Martin also works hard to keep the course material up to date. Because the machinery safety standards change continually, the course has to evolve accordingly. Furthermore, Martin takes into account feedback from trainees and he also develops the course using his own ideas and those of colleagues.

Steve Farrow, the General Manager of Pilz Automation Technology (pictured left), was also presented with a certificate in recognition of the company's role as Martin's sponsor. Steve says: "Obviously everyone at Pilz is immensely proud of Martin, as the Medal for Excellence is a tremendous personal achievement. The medal is very well deserved and recognises Martin's exceptional qualities as a trainer."

C&G Medals of Excellence are rarely awarded; Martin Palmer is one of only 25 instructors to have been nominated for this year's awards and he was the only instructor to receive a Medal of Excellence in the East Midlands - the other five recipients were all students.

The C&G Training Centre at Pilz Automation Technology runs three training courses:

  • City & Guilds 4-day Machinery Safety Course
  • City & Guilds 2-day Machinery Safety Course for Managers
  • City & Guilds 1-day Machinery Safety Course for Supervisors

The four-day course provides attendees with the knowledge that will help them to demonstrate a level of competency in machinery safety. It is suitable for people who have responsibility for existing or new machinery, including maintenance engineers, engineering/project managers, designers and manufacturers.

An important aspect of effective training is getting the right information across to the right people. For that reason, Pilz also offers a similar two-day course aimed specifically at managers, and a one-day course for supervisors. Both cover the application of EU Regulations and standards for machinery safety, and they explain the full extent of the responsibilities for managers and supervisors under the current legislation.

These three courses are fully approved by City & Guilds and are only available through Pilz. However, Pilz can also provide the training courses at customers' sites.
