Pre-Formed Windings expands production facilities

Based in Sheffield, the company manufactures a broad range of medium- and high-voltage windings for large electric motors and generators. Using highly skilled production personnel, the company has grown significantly in recent years, exporting over 70 per cent of its production. Increases in global demand for electrical generating capacity, the expansion of utilities abroad and continuing demand for large-scale process industry output have driven the high market demand.

Vernon Fletcher, Operations Director of Pre-Formed Windings, comments: "A strong demand for high-quality pre-formed windings worldwide has helped us to increase turnover by 200 per cent in the last two years. It is the dedication and focus of our workforce, however, that we believe has allowed us to expand while also increasing profitability."

New machinery is also being installed, increasing the investment in the business. Richard K Hale, CEO of Deritend Industries, states: "The government has long argued that UK industry should focus on high technology and highly skilled engineering companies that are flexible enough to satisfy changing demand and stay ahead of the market in terms of technology. Pre-Formed Windings is a good example of exactly this, but through investing in an existing business. Producing windings for power stations, for example, is not something a company can decide to do overnight; we have protected our knowledge and skills base within this company and the results are now paying off for us".
