Precision proportional valves for pressure and flow regulation

A new range of proportional valves from Norgren comprises high-performance products which deliver engineering advantage to users by enabling flexible control of both pressure and flow. Pressure-regulating proportional valves are used in a variety of applications, such as spot welding to control electrode clamping force, dancer roller applications to control the position of the roller on winding machines, and for leak testing.

Precision proportional valves for pressure and flow regulation

In spot welding, proportional valves enable accurate and fast response times as clamping forces alter in line with changing welding parameters. With dancer rollers, proportional pressure regulation allows accurate resolution between input signal and output pressure, enabling the dancer roller system to accumulate material as line velocity varies and maintain the correct tension during the winding process.

Norgren VP50/51 and VP23 proportional three-way pressure controllers have been specifically designed for pressure regulation and leak testing. The VP50/51 models are available in three output pressure ranges: 0 to 2, 6 and 10bar in response to input signal of 0-10V or 4-20mA. Options include a backlit LCD display for adjustment of operating parameters, language and pressure units (Bar, psi, kPa) via an onboard keypad. There is also a 0-10V feedback option.

The VP50/ 51 is a proportional pressure regulator with a direct-acting hard-sealed piston valve. With a power consumption of less than 1W and a controlling accuracy of 1 per cent, it is available with or without an integrated programming keypad and LCD display.

VP23 models are also available with three output pressure ranges: 0 to 2, 10 and 16bar in response to input signal of 0-10V or 4-20mA. An onboard LED display and Profibus DP connectivity are available as options. High flow rates are achievable with two alternative orifice sizes of DN8 and DN16. Operating parameters are set up via the serial interface connection using Norgren's Windows-based VPtool software.

On-board microprocessor control

Areas of application for flow-controlling proportional valves include the positioning and speed control of cylinder movement. Here, the VP60 proportional valve delivers fast response times and excellent repeatability. On-board microprocessor control directly operates this 5/3-way glandless valve. The VP60 has fast response times (3-5 microseconds) and a standard serial interface for a Windows user interface (VP Tool) described above.

The Norgren range of electropneumatic proportional valves includes proportional pressure and flow versions with open or closed control loops. Sophisticated glandless piston technology and balanced seating continuously regulates and controls pressure or flow. The result promises highly responsive performance and a long, problem-free life cycle.
