Rae Goman, a talented apprentice working for Procter Bros Ltd, based in Caerphilly, has been shortlisted for a prestigious regional apprentice award as part of the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2017.

Rae, aged 19, is in the running for Business Apprentice First Year. She was shortlisted after impressing judges with her hard work and dedication to her apprenticeship, and her determination to pursue a career in manufacturing.

Rae is now up against shortlisted apprentices from across Wales, each looking to be crowned regional winner at a ceremony taking place in Cardiff on 7 November. If successful, she will then go on to compete with other regional winners from across the UK for the national title, which will be announced at an awards gala dinner in London early next year.

Rae Goman says: "It is such an honour to have been recognised in this way. I know exactly how much hard work and dedication that every apprentice puts into their apprenticeship so being shortlisted is very special. I can't wait to meet the other apprentices and see how I get on at the awards ceremony.

"My apprenticeship has opened up so many doors. It has given me an invaluable opportunity to pursue a career in an exciting and vibrant sector where I feel my achievements are valued. It is fantastic to be part of a family-owned manufacturing business that dates back to 1740. I hope other young people can see this and are inspired to pursue a career in manufacturing."

Terry Scuoler, CEO of EEF, the manufacturers' organisation, says: "This is a great achievement by Rae. It is testament to her dedication to her apprenticeship that she has been shortlisted for this important award.

"Manufacturing is the cornerstone of British economic success. These awards go a small way to recognise the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication that they bring to the sector. It is great to see Rae's efforts being rewarded and I wish her the best of luck at the regional awards ceremony and beyond."
