PULS is extending its DIN-Rail power supplies product range to serve new market segments. Applying new techniques and concepts from design to manufacturing, the new PIANO series offers reliability, service lifetime and efficiency figures usually only available in higher-cost products.
The PIANO series power supplies are now available for applications that demand high performance and reliability at a competitive cost. By taking a fresh and innovative approach, the intrinsic properties of PULS power supplies (high reliability and long service lifetime) have now been implanted into a product range that provides significant price advantages. PIANO prices are subsequently reduced by up to 40 per cent below previous model prices.
John Tyrrell, Managing Director of PULS UK, comments: "Despite the low-cost design goals, an MTBF of more than 1.4 million hours and efficiencies of 90.5 to 94.5 per cent have been achieved with a typical minimum service lifetime of 40,000 hours. These innovations have been made possible by a smart single-board design with cost-saving polycarbonate housing by our specialist PULS design team focused on an intelligent design for cost-effective manufacturability. The result is a compact, highly reliable and competitive supply; the 240W version requires a width of just 49mm on the DIN-Rail."
These new supplies are purely convection-cooled and can operate from -10degC (some units even from -25degC) up to +70degC. Power derating is typically only required above +55degC. The PIANO series is easy to use because it clips onto any standard DIN-Rail and includes large-sized terminals making installation simple and fast. Furthermore, the PIANO series features a 'DC OK' signal that can be used to monitor the unit's output voltage.
Additional cost saving is made possible for applications where global use is not needed and a nominal input voltage of 200-240V is sufficient. By eliminating the cost penalty associated with a universal input range, products optimised for the higher input range provide an even better cost versus performance position.
Currently available are 24V/5A and 24V/10A models for input voltages from 200-240V. Additional products suitable for all global input voltages from 100V-240V will be available in Q2/2015. The new PIANO series enables machine builders and system integrators to save costs without compromising on the benefits of a reliable, efficient and easy-to-use power supply.
