Reduce costs and delivery time with adjustable gas struts

WDS is releasing a range of adjustable gas struts that allow the end user to quickly adapt the internal pressure to meet the requirements of their particular application. With just a single allen key, (supplied) the adjustment can be made in seconds and allows the standard gas struts to become compatible with a host of applications which require different weights. This flexibility reduces delivery time and keeps costs down as bespoke components are no longer required and the parts are available ex stock.

Gas struts use compressed gas contained within a cylinder and compressed by a piston to exert a force similar to that of a traditional metal spring. They are very versatile, and are used as a direct replacement for metal springs in many applications because they are compact, clean and reliable. They are used across many industries in situations where assisting force is required or for the direct support of sliding columns, tensioning devices and dampers.

Gas struts can be found in many applications, including car tailgates, skylights, sunbeds, boat access hatches and machine guards. Because of the scope of potential pressures, it can be difficult to find a single product with the correct pressure rating in stock. This can lead to long lead times and, in some cases, if the pressure needs to be set to order prior to delivery, higher purchase prices. Adjustable gas struts from WDS solve this problem by offering a comprehensive range of pressures within just four standard products.

WDS high-quality gas struts are constructed from either carbon steel or stainless steel, and are suitable for applications where they will be subjected to heavy use. Each strut is fitted with a brass adjusting valve which allows the internal pressure to be set to the precise requirements of the application. Long-lasting gland seals are then used to make sure that the pressure is maintained. Upon installation of the gas strut the pressure can be quickly adjusted to the required level using an allen key which is provided with each part.

The adjustable gas struts from WDS are available in a choice of four starting pressures from 400 to 2500 Newtons, and can be adjusted to any pressure between 20 and 2500 Newtons. WDS holds all four pressure options in stock in its UK warehouse, meaning that typically orders will be despatched the same day for delivery the following one. Rod / body sizes are available in 6/15mm, 8/19mm, 10/22mm and 14/28mm.

WDS's range of products is available for download online as detailed 2D and 3D product models in all of the popular CAD compatible formats and as fully annotated files. Please visit www.wdsltd.co.uk for further information about the company's range of adjustable gas struts.
