Registrations open for NI Vision & Automation Forum 2007

National Instruments has opened registration for the NI Vision & Automation Forum 2007, which takes place on Thursday 6 December at the company's UK & Ireland headquarters in Newbury, Berkshire. This free one-day event is organised in partnership with leading vision experts Alrad, Firstsight Vision and Flir Systems.

Registrations open for NI Vision & Automation Forum 2007

Attendees will learn how to optimise vision and automation applications with programmable automation controllers (PACs), harnessing their measurement, analysis, connectivity and advanced control features to:

  • Improve yields and quality
  • Enhance throughput and efficiency
  • Improve equipment uptime and availability

The Keynote, entitled Graphical System Design for Industrial Automation and Machine Vision, will be followed by technical sessions including:

  • Lighting and optics for machine vision (presented by Alrad)
  • Camera technologies (presented Firstsight Vision)
  • NI frame grabbers
  • Configuring industrial machine vision systems
  • Thermal imaging (presented by Flir Systems)
  • Sharpen your edge: The science behind the new edge detector
  • Identify yourself: The technology behind direct part mark identification
  • LabVIEW on a sensor: Introduction to the NI smart camera
  • Considerations for using USB in industrial environments
  • All you need to know about the shared variable
  • Developing an embedded data-logging architecture for CompactRIO
  • Adding HMIs to your PAC with the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module
  • Access data from any industrial device, network and PLC with LabVIEW
  • IT 101 for engineers: Networking PACs with Ethernet infrastructure
  • DIAdem for industrial automation
  • State-based programming from desktop to FPGA with LabVIEW

NI will be featuring the recently released NI 1722 and NI 1742 smart cameras designed to provide engineers and scientists with high-performance systems at a low cost (see www.ni.com/vision). The NI smart cameras combine an industrial controller with an image sensor and integrate with NI vision software to offer image processing directly on the cameras, making them excellent for applications such as locating parts, inspecting packaging, verifying assembly and reading 1D and 2D codes.

NI vision tools feature support for cameras including the new IEEE 1394 and Gigabit Ethernet, superior image quality, advanced triggering and easy-to-use driver and application development software. Hardware options range from plug-in frame grabber cards for PCI, PXI and PCI/PXI Express, to integrated, standalone vision systems for rugged, multi-camera, real-time control and industrial inspection, utilising reconfigurable I/O FPGA. All NI vision hardware includes NI Vision Acquisition software for acquiring, displaying, logging and monitoring images.
