Rencol secures award for manufacturing excellence

The prestigious MX Manufacturing Excellence Awards are organised by the IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers). Demonstrating the high-profile nature of the awards was the guest list, which included Margaret Hodge MP, Minister for Industry and the Regions, and The Rev Ian Paisley, while Andrew Marr, the BBC television and radio presenter, was the host for the evening.

As well as winning the overall award for best SME, Rencol was also congratulated for having been short-listed for three other awards: process innovation, people effectiveness and change management. A spokesperson for the judging panel said: "Rencol produced a huge portfolio of good work in virtually every award category. It was strong in customer focus, supplying to big-name customers in the demanding automotive and IT markets. It was exemplary in product innovation, with a technology that is constantly being updated, and for which new applications are found frequently. It aims and succeeds in being a good employer with strong people policies and active people development that extends outwards into links with schools and universities."

Commenting on the win, Jim Smith, Managing Director of Rencol Tolerance Rings, said: "To be recognised in such a way, having been through a rigorous three-stage awarding process, is a great boost to everyone at Rencol. To be measured alongside such major companies as Agfa, DuPont, Elfab and Hozelock, and to be recognised as being on a par with them, really sends out the message that we are moving in the right direction. Alongside our recent successes in the automotive market, our 25th anniversary celebrations and the exciting developments in China and other markets, it really is a great time for Rencol."

Andrew Marr presented the award at the Marriott Hotel, where he was joined by Margaret Hodge, Minister for Industry and Regions, who said: "Manufacturing continues to play a vital role in the UK economy and the Government is determined to ensure that it stays that way. These awards are proof that success comes from constantly improving, innovating and investing - in new ideas, new production techniques and new products. The shortlist for MX2007 puts the spotlight on the very best of these companies and their success means success for us all: success for employees, success for consumers and success for Britain. My congratulations go to the company which has gone from strength to strength, demonstrating that employing best practice will lead to success and ultimately long term sustainability.

"The future of manufacturing depends on industry raising investment, and applying science and innovation, best practice and skills to create even better British products that comply with world demand in today's markets. The MX Awards show it can be done."
