Inmoco is offering selected models of its Exlar GSX linear actuators with integral force measurement for use in applications including fastening and joining, bag sealing, thermoforming, welding, clamping, testing, tension control - and many more.
The force measuring option is available on the Exlar GSX30, 40, 50 and 60 models. It comprises a load cell that is totally enclosed within the actuator's sealed housing, enabling it to measure directly the force being applied by the actuator's output rod. The strain gauge load sensor used to measure applied force is also mounted inside the actuator's housing, protecting it from external damage and guaranteeing accurate and consistent force data.
A separate connector is supplied for connecting the internal load cell to an external conditioner/amplifier that is required to excite the strain gauge sensor and provide an output. Alternatively, Exlar offers strain gauge conditioners to provide a high-level output signal, either 0-10V or 4-20mA, or third-party conditioners/amplifiers can also be used for this purpose.
Exlar GSX advanced electromechanical actuators are said to provide a clean, fast, simple and cost-effective replacement for both hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. They integrate Exlar's patented inverted roller screw mechanism, a technology that enables Exlar to provide some of the most reliable, long-lasting electromechanical actuators on the market. The planetary design of the roller screws enables them to be accelerated and rotated faster than comparably sized ball screws, while their large contact area enables high forces to be handled and provides a long life - typically 15 times that of comparably sized ball screws - even in demanding repetitive applications
GSX series linear actuators combine a brushless servo motor, an inverted roller screw and an encoder/resolver feedback source within a single compact assembly. This arrangement eliminates the cost and complexity of a systems engineering approach, as all elements for producing linear motion have been properly matched and designed into the actuator and tested for efficiency.
