SafeMech safety expertise at Northern Manufacturing 2013
SafeMech will be at Northern Manufacturing & Electronics (2/3 October 2013, Event City, Manchester) to help visitors keep pace with the current best practice for workplace safety - which can be difficult for busy companies that struggle with continual changes in legislation. SafeMech advises on machinery safety for new projects, existing machinery, imports from outside the EU and renovations. The firm covers all aspects including risk assessments, EN 13849 validations, guarding and control systems.
A recent project involved production of a Machinery Directive Technical File for a bearing housing grinding cell for SKF Ltd in Luton. SKF had developed a concept for a new system for automatically grinding and palletising the sides of bearing shells. Although SKF was building the cell for its own use, the company wanted to be sure that all relevant legislation and standards and been complied with.
The cell incorporated a grinding machine, a robot palletiser, a feed buffer table, inspection equipment and various conveyors transferring components between parts of the cell. SafeMech provided advice on safety aspects, undertook risk assessments for the whole cell and collated third-party documentation and checklists against relevant standards and the Essential Health and Safety Requirements of the Directive into a
Technical File. SKF was also given advice on relevant standards to apply in its design, and content of the CE marking nameplate and Declaration of Conformity.
