Safety-rated dump valves, double-valves and shut-off valves
At the Health and Safety '10 - North exhibition Ross UK was promoting its valves for use within safety-related control systems involving pneumatic and hydraulic systems. These include Lock Out and Tag Out (LOTO) energy isolation valves, Hose Fuze devices for shutting off the air supply in the event of a hose being damaged, and double (redundant) hydraulic valves for applications such as power presses; these latter devices feature internal monitoring so that any fault is indicated prior to a dangerous situation arising.
Ross UK had a number of publications available on its stand, including Fluid Power Safety for Machine Guarding. Although this was prepared in the USA by the parent company and references American standards, the safety principles explained are just as valid in the UK and elsewhere.
