Schaeffler unveils energy-saving innovations for vehicles

At the opening of the show, Federal Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel visited Schaeffler's 500m2 stand as part of her tour of the trade exhibition halls. The Chancellor was welcomed by Schaeffler Group partner Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler, Georg FW Schaeffler, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, and Dr Juergen M Geissinger, President and CEO of Schaeffler Group. The Chancellor was able to gain valuable insights into current developments in energy-efficient vehicles.

An important delegation from the UK also visited the Schaeffler stand. This group included Mark Prisk, MP for Hertford and Stortford and a minister in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, who was welcomed onto the stand by Richard Hall, Director and General Manager of the Automotive Division at Schaeffler (UK) Ltd. Mark Prisk was introduced to a number of key Schaeffler innovations that help to optimise the drive train of vehicles with internal combustion engines and o meet the demands of global energy-efficient mobility. He was given a guided tour of the stand by Professor Peter Pleus, President of Schaeffler Group Automotive.

Thermal management

Schaeffler's stand included a number of innovative products and systems for the automotive industry, including efficient drive trains for internal combustion engines, new components for hybrid vehicles, as well as advanced products and systems for electric mobility. One particular innovation unveiled on the stand was a new thermal management module that reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 4 per cent by optimising and controlling the temperature of engines and transmissions, as well as hybrid components and batteries.

The 'advanced Drive' and 'eSolutions' concept cars attracted special attention on the stand. The eSolutions demonstration vehicle showed a large number of technologies for future mobility, including Schaeffler's eWheel Drive, a wheel-hub drive for new vehicle architectures and the eDifferential, which enables alternative driving dynamics in electric vehicles.

In addition, the advanced Drive demonstration vehicle showed products that optimise the energy efficiency of drive trains for vehicles with internal combustion engines. The micro hybrid and the start-stop function were presented as important technologies for the future.

Components and systems from Schaeffler's various brands (INA, FAG and LuK) can be found on vehicles of almost every major carmaker. On average, every car worldwide contains around 60 components from Schaeffler.
