See Nord products and systems at Passenger Terminal Expo 2019
At the Passenger Terminal Expo 2019 in London, UK, from 26 to 28 March, Nord Drivesystems will be presenting decentralised and innovative drive products for cost-effective baggage-handling systems. Highlights include the efficient plug-and-play system LogiDrive as well as the PROFIsafe interface module for safe operation of plant and machinery. With the Nordcon app and the corresponding Nordac Access BT Bluetooth stick, the company has created a mobile commissioning and service system for all Nord drives.
Nord decentralised drive technology is used in many applications throughout the world - including airport technology where, for example it contributes to the smooth operation of baggage-handling systems. Innovative inverters with integrated PLCs perform functions close to the drive and reduce the load on the higher-level control system. The drive components have a power range of up to 22kW and can be supplied with all commonly available plug connectors. They can be freely configured and adapted to any application. Thanks to the PLC that is integrated into the inverter, the decentralised drives can form master-slave groups that communicate with each other and assume control tasks independently. The PLC processes the data from sensors and actuators and can autonomously initiate control sequences, as well as communicating drive and application data to a control centre, networked components or to cloud storage. This allows for continuous condition monitoring and therefore forms the basis for predictive maintenance concepts, as well as optimised plant dimensioning.
In addition to intelligent networking, economical drive technology is required, which can be achieved, for example, with a tried-and-tested method for reducing the number of variants. With its LogiDrive systems, Nord offers service and maintenance-friendly plug-and-play technology, which features excellent efficiency and reliability. LogiDrive drive units consist of energy-efficient IE4 geared motors, two-stage helical bevel gear units and decentralised frequency inverters to ensure optimised processes and costs.
Optional functional safety module
Because functional safety is becoming increasingly important in modern machinery and plant design, the optional Nord SK TU4-PNS module supports the implementation of safe responses via PROFIsafe. Functions such as SLS (Safety Limited Speed), SSR (Safe Speed Range), SDI (Safe Direction), SOS (Safe Operation Stop) and SSM (Safe Speed Monitor) can be integrated and extend the safe stop functions of the drive units. Integration of safety functions into the drive unit offers many advantages in comparison with a drive system with separate safety technology. Less installation space is required, the number of external safety components is reduced and the system is modularly scalable. The amount of wiring is minimised, as only a network cable is required. A further advantage is the global availability of the machine's safety data.
With the Nordcon app and the corresponding Nordac Access BT Bluetooth stick, users benefit from a dashboard-based display for drive monitoring and fault diagnosis. Parameterisation of drives is easily feasible with a Help function and rapid access to parameters. The app also offers other convenient functions such as backup, recovery and oscilloscope.
