Servomech high-precision ball screws from Techdrives

Techdrives is introducing a new range of Servomech high-precision ball screws with diameters 14 to 100mm, available on short delivery times. Ball screws and nuts with standard dimensions to ISO 3408 and DIN 69051 are available from stock, with machining carried out in-house where required. Accuracy grades from class 7 up to class 3 are offered for transport and positioning applications.

Servomech ball screws have an efficiency of about 90 per cent. Compared to hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ball screws are said to be easy to control and cleaner. Compared against belt-driven systems and linear actuators, they are claimed to be more precise and can be faster, at up to 2m/s.

Servomech ball screws are machined in-house, which enables the company to maintain control over design and quality. The screws are manufactured by rolling or whirling to produce a quality similar to that available by grinding. Accuracy grades range from class 7, which is suitable for the majority of applications, up to class 3, which is a higher precision suitable for machine tools. Screws are stocked in lengths up to 5.7m, with a range of pitches from 5 to 40mm.

Ball nuts are also manufactured by Servomech to DIN 69051, matching the screws. Two ball recirculating systems are used - the radial liner where the balls make one revolution before being returned to the original track, and the frontal deflector in which the ball raceway travels the whole length of the nut before returning. Single nuts are either standard or preloaded to remove backlash, and double preloaded nuts have higher load ratings.

Servomech ball screws and nuts are available in the UK through Techdrives. The selection and ordering process is made as easy as possible by involving UK Engineers and factory-based expertise. Optimised selections are made by considering the speeds, loads, accuracy requirements, duty and environment. Dimensions to the international standards are readily available, but also the in-house manufacture means special dimensions can be offered.
