Signal conditioner offered in aluminium housing

Penny + Giles is launching a new metal enclosure option for its EICT-M electronics module. The module, which performs the signal conditioning for the company's popular in-cylinder transducers (ICT) and sealed linear transducers (SLT), is now available with a rugged die-cast aluminium alloy housing that is suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions and electrically noisy applications.

It was developed in response to customer demand and allows OEMs to install the electronics module in a variety of industrial vehicle, marine and control applications.

The EICT-M module features an impressive environmental performance, with dust and fluid protection to IP68 and submersion to 2m possible, with EMC immunity to 100V/m. The module can be located up to 10m away from the linear transducer, allowing the effects of extreme shock and vibration to be isolated from the electronics.

Choice of outputs

The EICT-M provides a standard output voltage signal of 0.5-4.5V DC that can be configured to match the linear transducer stroke, from a 10-60V DC unregulated supply. Additional 'plug-in' cards can be supplied to extend the range of analogue voltage outputs and also provide a 4-20mA current output for signal transmission over longer distances.

If a digital output is required, the EICT-M electronics are used in conjunction with the Penny + Giles pulse width modulation (PWM) output option card that provides a TTL-level compatible signal with a 10-90 per cent duty cycle proportional to the transducer displacement.

The EICT-M is designed for bulkhead mounting via four M5 fixing holes under the lid and the enclosure is protected with a durable blue powder-coated finish.
