Simotion V4.1 gains cam interpoloation function

With a new interpolation function in the Simotion V4.1 runtime system, Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is supplementing its previous applicative interpolation by means of cams. The function is independent of any particular platform and enables polynomial interpolation as well as linear and circular interpolation. All types of interpolation can be applied both on a plane and in space. Up to three axes can be interpolated and a further axis can be kept synchronous to the movement. Interpolation programming can be carried out via ST (Structured Text) or MCC (Motion Control Chart).

The main application for the interpolation function is in the handling of products. Different transformations for kinematic elements widely available on the market have been implemented such as Portal, SCARA, roller, articulated arm, or delta kinematic elements. For simple creation of handling devices, the application program that comes with the new function can be used. It enables inching mode to be used and movement programs to be created. Interpolation in machines for processing materials is implemented with the Sinumerik machine tool controllers and other Sinumerik products.
