SKF linear motion technology showcases at Drives & Controls 2018

Visitors to this year's Drives & Controls show will see innovative product ranges from SKF's linear motion and actuation systems portfolio. SKF linear motion products are available in a variety of formats, including ball and roller screws, linear actuators, profile rail guides, precision rail guides, linear tables and slides. Products in each of these categories will be on display, including a number of dynamic exhibits demonstrating their high performance and ease of integration.

SKF offers a wide range of low- to medium-duty electric actuator designs and configurations for simple industrial or specific healthcare applications, providing everything from low- to high-load capacities and medium operating speeds to quiet operation and aesthetic styling.

Taking centre stage on the stand will be the modular CASM-100 electric cylinder range, featuring ball or roller screw driven variants with either in-line or parallel mounted gearbox configurations. Offering a high level of precision and repeatability, the CASM-100 cylinders can be fitted with either an AC motor or servomotor, and choice of position feedback device to meet the required positioning accuracy. CASM-100 electric cylinders are user-configurable using a simple-to-use software tool which can be downloaded from the SKF website.

Joining the CASM-100 will be the modular LEMC ElectroMechanical Cylinder assembly, comprising linear unit, motor, motor controller and limit switches. Constructed from high-grade materials, LEMC cylinders are designed to operate within the harshest of industrial environments with IP54 protection class as standard and IP65 as an option.

Also on display will be SP series high-performance miniature ball screws, which benefit from SKF's advanced machining capabilities and in-house developed metallurgical processes. These rolled ball screw assemblies deliver virtually the same accuracy and performance as ground ball screws but at a fraction of the cost. For example, SKF can deliver rolled ball screws with G5 lead precision (according to ISO 3408-3:2006) matching the lead precision of G5 ground ball screws.

The newly designed ball screw nuts have a patented ball recirculation system that allows a substantial increase in their rotational speed capability - up to 2.4 times that of existing models. Offering reduced operating noise, smooth running and extended life, SP series ball screws are suitable for applications such as medical and laboratory automation.

The demands placed on modern linear guidance technology have risen significantly in recent years, especially in terms of service life, motion precision and robustness. At the same time, users expect installation and maintenance outlay to be as low as possible, and this is particularly true for medical applications. Meeting these demands, LLS miniature profile rail guides are all-stainless steel, pre-lubricated and fitted with a reservoir to extend lubrication intervals in operation. They can also be supplied with a variety of interchangeable carriages and rails.

SKF will be exhibiting in Hall 9, Stand D600 at the Drives & Controls show, which takes place from 10 to 12 April 2018, at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. Go to www.skf.co.uk for further information.
