SKF takes to the straight and narrow at EDS "˜17

SKF's presence at this year's Engineering Design Show will give the company's linear motion and actuation technology team the opportunity to showcase three new innovative product ranges from its portfolio.

SKF takes to the straight and narrow at EDS

Renowned for its quality engineering, reliability and cost-effectiveness, SKF linear products are available in a variety of formats, including ball and roller screws, linear actuators, profile rail guides, precision rail guides, linear tables and slides.

SKF offers a wide range of low- to medium-duty electric actuator designs and configurations for simple industrial or specific healthcare applications. These provide everything from low- to high-load capacities and medium operating speeds to quiet and aesthetically designed systems. A number of dynamic exhibits will showcase integrated products in action.

At the show, SKF will be presenting its modular CASM-100 electric cylinder range, featuring ball or roller screw driven variants with either in-line or parallel mounted gearbox configurations. Offering a high level of precision and repeatability, the CASM-100 cylinders can be fitted with either an AC motor or servomotor and choice of position feedback device to meet the required positioning accuracy. CASM-100 actuators are user-configurable to meet a wide range of applications. An online software tool is available on the SKF website and users can use this to set up their cylinders in just a few simple steps.

Also on display will be SKF's range of high-precision rolled ball screws SP series. Benefiting from advanced machining techniques and metallurgical processes, these ball screw assemblies deliver virtually the same accuracy and performance of ground ball screws but at a fraction of the cost. For example, SKF can deliver ball screws with G5 lead precision (according to ISO 3408-3:2006) matching the lead precision of G5 ground ball screws. The newly designed ball screw nuts have a patented ball recirculation system giving a large increase in their rotational speed capability, thus increasing the output speed potential of the ball screw nut by up to 2.4 times existing models. With reduced noise levels in operation and smoother running, the nut ultimately provides an extended lifetime. SP series ball screws are well suited for applications such as medical and laboratory automation.

SKF's new miniature profile rail guide LLS series follows on from the high-precision ball screw and completes the trio of new linear product ranges exhibited at EDS'17. The demands placed on modern linear guidance technology have risen significantly in recent years, especially in terms of service life, motion precision and robustness. At the same time, users expect installation and maintenance outlay to be as low as possible, and this is particularly true for medical applications. Meeting these demands, SKF LLS all-stainless steel guides are pre-lubricated and fitted with a lubrication reservoir to extend lubrication intervals in operation, they can also be supplied with a variety of interchangeable carriages and rails.

SKF will be exhibiting on Stand A14 at the Engineering Design Show, which takes place on the 18th and 19th October 2017, at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. Go to www.skf.com for further product details.
