Slimline 7-inch panel PC offers exceptional versatility

At the 2007 SPS/IPC/Drives show in Nuremberg, Germany, Kontron introduced the latest - and smallest - member of its slimline Micro Client family of panel PCs. With a touch-screen display of only 7inches, the space-saving and versatile Kontron M@C 70 offers scalable Intel Celeron performance and a host of interfaces in an easy-to-mount and flexible design.

The Micro Client M@C 70 requires less than 50mm of panel depth for installation and is less expensive than a fully-fledged industrial PC. Nevertheless, it still offers sophisticated graphics, an intuitive GUI and touch-screen operation on a 800x480 TFT display. Designed for versatility, this panel PC provides scalable performance up to the Celeron M 600MHz processor for use as either a thin client, web client, user terminal or controller.

Further flexibility is assured thanks to the M@C 70 being equipped with two 10/100 Ethernet ports, two USB 2.0 ports, one RS232 port and an optional RS422/RS485 port - as well as an optional CAN bus connection. Power supplies ranging from 11.4-28.8V ensure safe and direct connection to industrial power systems, making the M@C 70 suitable for a wide range of applications in, for example, machine and system manufacturing, vehicle engineering, building management systems, medical technology and transportation.

As a complete all-in-one HMI, the M@C 70 Micro Client panel PC is also useful for point-of-sale, point-of-information, standalone kiosks and other applications requiring easy installation via the rear of the machine. In addition, traditional panel mounting, as well as VESA mounting, make the M@C 70 a truly 'mount-anywhere' panel PC.

Shock and vibration resistance, thermal stability and compliance with the strictest EMC standards are standard features of this panel PC, as is long term availability of at least five years. Windows CE.net, Windows XP Embedded and Embedded Linux are also available as standard, along with numerous protocols, including http, XML and Remote Desktop Protocol.

Panel PCs with all the application programs running on a central (web) server are very low-maintenance and highly flexible. The advantages of this thin client architecture include centralised administration and software maintenance, maximum data security through centralised data storage and backup, and high reliability and availability (high MTBF values) through the elimination of rotating mass storage devices and fans - all of which reduces the total cost of ownership to the minimum.
