Southern Manufacturing 2014 seminars announced

ETES, the event organiser, says that the free technical seminar programme at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics is among the key highlights of the two days, attracting a large number of delegates every year. The programme is a complementary blend of technical and business subjects dealing with a wide array of issues facing manufacturing and engineering enterprises today. From exporting to emerging markets, to keeping pace with current EU legislation and designing for commercial success, the workshops offer something for everyone.

In the Engineering Theatre, Tim Scurlock from Automotive Lean Consulting will be looking at how Lean Concepts can be applied to the elimination of waste in manufacturing and service industries. Bang Creations' Stefan Knox returns to reprise his outstandingly popular Designing for Commercial Success and New Product Development.

David Kilroy and Ailsa Kaye from Manufacturing Insights will examine Best Practice and World-Class Manufacturing. Mike Harrison from ATOL Business Services will look at Supply Chain and SC21, while David Banks-Fear, managing director of Southern Springs & Pressings, presents the intriguingly titled Springs, Pressings, Hi-Tech Design & Glamour. Hugh Dunlop of RGC Jenkins & Co will demystify Patents and trademarks, while current and future CE marking legislation is outlined by Peter Evans from the CE Marking Association. Closing the Engineering sessions, Stephen Ashcroft looks at Identifying and Managing Procurement Risk.

The Electronics sessions begin with a look at Selling to Emerging Markets, with Sergey Putintsev of TUV Rheinland. This popular session is repeated in the Engineering theatre on the following day. Nick Wainwright, CEO of York EMC Services, examines Declarations of Conformity (DoCs) for the EU EMC Directive, why so many DoCs become invalid over time and how to prevent this happening.

To Automate or Not To Automate

Mark Penton, Retail Laboratory Manager at TUV SUD Product Service, guides delegates through the requirements for CE Marking for Consumer Products and Professional Electronics. Peter Grundy of the Altus Group takes a look at the pros and cons of automation in To Automate or Not To Automate. Finally, Stephen Ashcroft invites delegates to Sharpen their Commercial Negotiation Skills with a look at six techniques of persuasion.

Taking part in the technical seminars, as well as admission to the show itself, is entirely free. However pre-registration for the seminars is wise as places are limited. FIVE, Farnborough - just off the M3 in Hampshire - is easily accessible by road and public transport. On-site car parking is also free, and a free shuttle bus service operates daily between the show and both North Camp and Farnborough Main railway stations.
