Specialist filters developed for endoscopes and sigmoidoscopes
Helapet has developed a range of filters to protect endoscopes and sigmoidoscopes from contamination, thereby aiding infection control and avoiding cross-contamination between patients.
Helapet compact filters for endoscopes and sigmoidoscopes (part number FH5073) prevent the back-flow of body fluids during patient examination from contaminating expensive equipment, while maintaining the performance of the scopes. The company manufactures a 25mm diameter filter that it designed especially for use with endoscopes and sigmoidoscopes. By using hydrophobic glass fibre media this filter is resistant to the moisture of bodily fluids. Furthermore, the sealed housing provides a safe method of disposal for staff by preventing contact with contaminants.
The use of a filter to protect patents was recommended by the MHRA in an alert issued on 14 July 2010 (Reference MDA/2010/060) to aid in preventing cross-contamination between patients and the spread of HCAI by installing a new filter for each patient.
