HBM has developed a comprehensive range of specialist torque transducers for wind turbines. These are available in both rotating and non-rotating designs, with nominal torques of up to 1.5MNm.
Wind turbines require torques to be measured accurately in order to ensure maximum efficiency. Optimising the torque increases the efficiency of a wind power plant; efficiency increases of just a few per cent can result in savings worth millions.
Wind turbine rotors rotate relatively slowly, with the speed being increased by gears to suit the electrical generator. This process means that torques, particularly on the rotor side, are extremely high. Torques in the range of several MNm can occur, depending on the plant and wind conditions.
As a measurement technology specialist, HBM has also developed designs of torque transducers for wind turbines and other applications with even higher torques, all of which can be quickly supplied when required.
