Radio technology in automation has finally grown up. Countless application challenges are now being met using a range of radio solutions. For almost every task there is a radio product or technical answer available, whether it involves fast real-time communication, long distances or rugged, redundant systems.
The joint stand "Wireless in Automation" gives a comprehensive view of the different ways in which wireless communication can be used by applications, with 29 exhibitors showing a wide range of systems. M2M (machine-to-machine) communication involves data being exchanged over long distances with GPRS or UMTS. Proprietary systems allow the efficient transmission over long distances. Industrial WLAN and Bluetooth interfaces allow good interoperability with office and consumer electronic networks. Other exhibitors have systems for secure data transmission and new concepts for embedding radio technology into established automation networks.
The "Wireless in Automation" joint stand has an all day program at the Speakers' Corner where exhibitors can provide an insight into technical implementation of their systems for different applications.
Highlights are the panel discussions with participants from industry leaders:
On Tuesday, 27 November, 11:30-12:30h the topic being discussed with leading representatives of the industry is "Industrial Communication with User Electronics? Trends in Wireless Technologies".
On Wednesday, 28 November, 13:30-14:30h there will be discussion of current and future radio standards in the automation industry. "WirelessHart, ZigBee & Co {-} Is there Another Radio Standard Needed in Automation?" is the question to be discussed by experts.
The panel discussion on Thursday, 13:30-14:30h is another highlight: "Are there finally Products for Wireless Communication {-} What Can We Learn from the US Industry?" This will give an insight into smart wireless solutions from US company Emerson Process and the response of German market leaders in automation.
