Festo is launching a new range of standard pneumatic cylinders with PPS self-adjusting cushioning, stating 'less is more' and claiming them to be the future of pneumatic cylinders.
In essence, profiled longitudinal slots channel the exhaust air in a controlled manner, providing very simple and effective end-of-stroke cushioning. There is no need to adjust the cushioning to take account of different air supply pressures, cylinder speeds, loads or wear within the machine, as the PPS cushioning is fully self-adjusting (and there is no risk that operatives or maintenance personnel will interfere with the cushioning). For machine builders, the advantages include:
End users - and machine builders contracted to maintain the machinery - benefit from:
PPS cushioning is available on cylinders in a variety of standard body styles, so PPS cylinders are easy to design into new machines or can be used as retrofits to replace cylinders equipped with conventional cushioning adjustment screws.
