STOBER offers PROFIdrive and PROFIsafe Motion Control

STOBER enhances drive controllers with extra PROFINET functions

The STOBER range of drive controllers, geared motors and its One Cable Solution, which allows the connection of the motor to drive controller over distances of up to 100m.

Following the redevelopment of the STOBER SU6 module, STOBER has enhanced its SC6 and SI6 series drive controllers with additional PROFINET functions that offer an attractive motion control solution for STO and SS1-t via PROFIsafe.

The communication interfaces of the drive controllers are now also PROFINET-certified, which enables STOBER to support a wide range of application classes in accordance with the standardised PROFIdrive device profile.

The SC6 series features compact stand-alone solutions for up to two drive axes with nominal output currents up to 2 x 19 A.

The SI6 is described as similarly slim, dynamic and suitable for multi-axis drive systems with nominal output currents up to 50 A.

New PROFINET Features

These two new PROFINET series include the SU6 safety module, which ensures safe operation, states STOBER, which is available as a standard option on its drive controllers. “This gives the user an economically attractive solution for STO and SS1-t safety functions via the PROFIsafe safety protocol, and allows the drive controllers to be used in systems with high safety technology demands, up to SIL 3, PL e, category 4,” adds the company.

“It also allows design engineers to implement an emergency stop in accordance with EN 13850, for example, or prevent an unexpected start-up in accordance with EN 14118.”

The communication interface functions of both controllers are also PROFINET-certified.

For the implementation of complex motion control applications, STOBER now supports drive integration in accordance with PROFIdrive application classes AC1 and AC3 for speed control, with set speed value and drive-based positioning.

STOBER says that the next step in controller-based positioning will be the application class AC4, which will soon be available from the company.

Compatible with all STOBER geared motors

The SC6 and SI6 drive controllers are compatible with the entire STOBER range of geared motors, from a simple helical gear unit to an extremely precise, high-end planetary geared motor.

The energy supply is provided by central supply modules in the group and users receive all necessary wiring for this. “The result is a safe and precise system that is tailored to the task,” it confirms.

“Now, with the SC6 and SI6 series from STOBER, design engineers, machinery manufacturers and end users can specify the most suitable motors and drive controllers for PROFINET-based applications from a single source.”
