Subcontract CMM service handles large components

Texturing Technology, which describes itself as a market leader in roll grinding, texturing and chrome plating, is extending its range of services with a new subcontract measuring facility. Companies wishing to subcontract the inspection of components can now do so at a competitive rate utilising Texturing Technology's state-of-the-art ITP Gantry CNC co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM).

Subcontract CMM service handles large components

Suitable for large components requiring precise measurement, the CMM provides an accurate approach for three-dimensional measurement. Capable of handling components up to 2000x2600x1800mm, the four-pillar, high-performance gantry CMM is suitable for the verification of production tolerances across batches and the measurement of large one-off or low-volume components such as castings and machined parts. Texturing Technology's CMM can also be utilised for the calibration and verification of a client's own equipment, where clients do not have their own facility.

Texturing Technology's gantry CMM is equipped with DC motors on each axis and is capable of fully automated inspection of parts at a speed of 350mm/s with a volumetric accuracy of U3 = 12 + L/250, giving a maximum error of just 16um/m. All feeds and speeds are fully adjustable and the operator is able to vary conditions within a particular programme. All measurements are stored digitally for potential interfacing with CAD/CAM systems or for monitoring dimensional variance through comparison with historical data.

A Y-axis movement equipped with twin scales and interpolation is used for precision quill position determination, providing high measurement accuracy. Centre rather than side location of the z-axis quill mounted on the x-axis crossbeam provides higher rigidity, which eliminates the effect of potential beam twist or deflection. The machine is equipped with a Renishaw PH10M and TP6 touch probe fully automatic system.

Applications

Rolling mills can also make use of the company subcontract facility. Matched with Texturing Technology's chock maintenance service, the new facility provides a one-stop-shop for service and CMM measurement to reduce the high potential cost of machine failure and unscheduled downtime.

Other applications include the regular, planned and detailed maintenance of chocks and housings as well as one-off spot contracts. The service is also aimed at suppliers to the automobile and aerospace industries, who may achieve a competitive advantage by utilising the verification and certification facility offered by the subcontracted CMM service, traceable back to international standards at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

All work is carried out by the company's team of highly skilled and experienced engineers who are fully trained on all aspects of the CMM. This new subcontract measuring facility will be of interest to a wide range of companies in a cross-section of industries including rolling mills, OEMs, equipment suppliers and engineering workshops.

About Texturing Technology Limited
