Harwin is introducing the F08 series of surface-mount, 0.8mm pitch connectors for use with flexible printed circuits (FPC) or flat conductor planar cables. Supplied in tubes and tape-and-reel packaging with two contact variations – horizontal top and horizontal bottom – the connectors feature SMT metal solder-down tabs that provide additional strain relief. Available with four to 30 contacts, the F08 connectors are also zero insertion force devices, which simplifies assembly and minimises the risk of damage.
F08 connectors have a UL94V-0 rated, high-temperature thermoplastic housing and the copper alloy contacts are tin plated. They are suitable for surface-mount processing at temperatures of up to 235degC for five seconds and offer a solder heat resistance of 260degC for 10 seconds. F08 connectors have a current rating of 0.5A, contact resistance of 20mohm (max) and an insulation resistance of 50Mohm (min). Operating temperature range is -20 to +85degC.
Wendy Bourne, Harwin's Technical Support Engineer, comments: "The F08 provides great flexibility for designers using FPC and planar conductor cables. The application base for this technology is expanding from established areas such as consumer AV to digital equipment of all types, where reduced weight and flexible circuit interconnection provides benefits."
