HBM is launching its Smart Torque family with the T12 digital torque transducer that is claimed to set new standards for increased efficiency and reliability for torque measurement in power test stands, while also providing monitoring and diagnosis functions for simplified integration into automation systems.
The T12 digital torque transducer measures torque, rotational speed, angle, power and temperature with maximum precision with nominal (rated) measuring ranges of 5kNm and 10kNm. This complements the existing T12 torque transducer range with nominal (rated) torques of 500Nm, 1kNm, 2kNm and 3kNm. T12 transducers can be used up to a nominal (rated) rotational speed of 16,000 rpm, depending on the measuring range.
HBM has designed the T12 to provide immediate measurement results and there is a wide choice of interconnectivity, including CANopen, Profibus, DPV1fieldbus systems and PLC automation systems. With a frequency output ranging from 10kHz ± 5kHz to 60kHz ± 30kHz and an analogue output of ±10, the T12 is also fully compatible with conventional technologies. Additionally the T12 outputs RS-422 signals to enable the measurement of rotational speed and angle.
The T12 benefits from a compact design that saves space and cost in test stand design. The lower rotor weight reduces bearing loads, while the smaller mass moments of inertia reduce dynamic moments during acceleration or braking.
By monitoring certain functions - for example, temperature and mechanical limit - the T12 can indicate critical operating states over time. This enables downtime to be reduced and machinery damage prevented. Auto-diagnosis functions easily identify operating errors and settings that are not in line with specifications.
