The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has designated TV SD BABT as a Notified Body for the Machinery Directive. This is the sixth Notified Body appointment for TV SD BABT in the UK, which also provides certification services for construction, marine, renewables and telecoms products.
TV SD BABT's Machinery Directive Notified Body status and its certification personnel have been successfully transferred from Laidler Certification LLP, which was acquired by TV SD in 2010.
TV SD BABT is now able to complete conformity assessments for machinery that is required to have Notified Body certification under the Machinery Directive. This includes equipment such as saw machinery, presses, injection moulding machinery and some guarding. It is also a Notified Body under the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Low Voltage Directives, to which most equipment that is subject to Machinery Directive requirements must also comply.
Jean-Louis Evans, Managing Director of TV SD BABT, says: "Our machinery division already has a proven pedigree of providing certification services for large one-off machines that require a bespoke approach. We are now able to transfer this expertise under TV SD BABT and also support manufacturers who produce higher volumes of machinery.
"While the EMC and Low Voltage Directives are a self-declaration process under the Machinery Directive, many manufacturers prefer the confidence and certainty that our service affords them before they self-declare compliance. Once again, we are able to provide a holistic service that reduces both testing costs and time to market for our customers," concluded Evans.
As a Notified Body, TV SD BABT is required to undergo an annual surveillance audit and full reassessments every 4 years by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ensure it continues to meet Machinery Directive Notified Body criteria. To find out more please visit www.tuv-sud.co.uk/uk-en.
